DXC 3000

The turnkey solution for digital x-ray inspection

Non-destructive material testing – Quality assurance – Science – Research and development

The DXC 3000 is a complete and ready-to-use cabinet for digital x-ray inspection of the most various objects. The combination of robust mechanic and modern design makes it equally suitable for laboratory use as well as for industrial x-ray application.

The DXC 3000 provide excellent digital x-ray images, which are available for processing on the connected PC immediately after the exposure. There are no additional costs for film, chemical and waste disposal. Also, additional devices like film processor or light box are not required.

Advantages

Five years guarantee against radiation damages of the detector

System components of the x-ray cabinet DXC 3000

The DXC 3000 includes all required components for full-digital x-ray examinations: The x-ray tube, the manipulator and the digital x-ray camera are housed within the x-ray shielded enclosure. The remaining components (generator, water chiller, workstation) are located in the lower part of the unit.

The x-ray images are taken in a scanning process: The manipulator moves the test object through the x-ray beam. During this, the camera scans the object line by line and transmits the data to the workstation, where the image gets assembled by the acquired lines.

All components are linked to the workstation. This allows a convenient operation of the machine. The operator only has to start an exposure. All further steps (turning on the radiation, start of the scanning movement and the image acquisition, etc.) are performed fully automatically by the software, until the x-ray image is available on the workstation for evaluation and archiving.

Options

The DXC 3000 is highly adaptable to customer needs.

To reach optimum results in an x-ray inspection, the system components have to be adapted to the specific application.
Materials with low density (e.g. plastic parts) require „soft“ radiation, while objects with higher density (e.g. aluminum castings) are x-rayed with „harder“ radiation.
If an inspection task needs to reach a high throughput, the x-ray unit must supply enough power, whereas for less time critical application a less powerful system is sufficient. For the inspection of individual small objects, it is enough to have a small image, larger scaled samples are more comfortable to be checked with larger x-ray cameras.

The modular design of the DXC 3000 allows us to fit the cabinet perfectly to the particular requirement of the customer. Among other things, the following options are available:

  • Various x-ray sources and generators
  • Linear x-ray cameras in various lengths
  • A second x-ray camera for stereoscopic 3D images
  • Object table with drawer for easier loading of the cabinet

The technical data section provides an overview of available standard components.

On customer’s request, the whole construction of the cabinet can be changed.
The picture shows a cabinet that has been modified based on customer specification: Two windows have been added to the x-ray protection enclosure, and the body was painted in a different color. The cabinet is mounted on height-adjustable feet to compensate unevenness of the floor. An electromechanical lock prevents unauthorized opening of the door. The interior of the cabinet has been equipped with additional x-ray source mounting brackets and cable access ports.

X-ray inspection in 3D

By upgrading the system with a second x-ray camera, the cabinet can be used to take stereoscopic 3D x-ray images. With that, the operator does not only see a flat image, but the object is displayed on a special 3D monitor with spatial depth. The 3D presentation significantly facilitates the evaluation and interpretation of the x-ray images. Please visit the 3D section for more information and sample images.

Safety

The x-ray cabinet DXC 3000 has been designed with a strong emphasis on safety:

In conformance to EN ISO 12100:2010, DIN EN 61010-2-091 and DIN 54113-2
X-Ray protection exceeds the strictest radiation safety standards
Made in Germany: The DXC 3000 is completely manufactured and tested in Germany

The x-ray shielded enclosure in sandwich-design (steel-lead-steel) prevents a leakage of radiation. The local dose rate directly on the cabinet surface is far below 1µS/h. For comparison: The typical dose rate for passengers in an airplane at an altitude of 33,000 feet is about 5µS/h. Important: The above mentioned maximum dose of 1µSv/h only relates to areas of the cabinet which are difficult to access, for example directly beyond the x-ray enclosure. At normal accessible areas, no radiation emitted by the cabinet can be measured.

The DXC 3000 is equipped with two redundant door interlocks. The interlocks prohibit turning on the x-ray radiation while the door is open. Also, they immediately shut off the radiation when the door is opened during x-ray inspection.

Two clearly visible “x-ray on” warning lights are embedded in the columns of the DXC 3000. The warning lights are made with LEDs, which have a much higher failure safety than usual incandescent light bulbs. In addition, the functionality of the warning lights is monitored by optical sensors.

A key switch on the control panel is used as main switch. The x-ray unit can only be turned on with the matching key, so it is protected from being used by unauthorized people.
